Cole, Triolo Earn Top-10 Regional Ranking to Close Fall
MEADVILLE, Pa. – The top-flight doubles pairing of senior Patrick Cole and
sophomore Tyler
Triolo concluded the fall season with the highest regional doubles ranking
in program history, as the duo will enter the spring season ranked No. 10 in
the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Men's Central
Regional Rankings, announced last week by the ITA.
The Allegheny men's tennis squad concludes the fall season ranked No. 20 in the region, as Cole used a 11-3 record in singles play to earn a No. 16 regional ranking in singles.
"Our men had a great fall campaign and they should all feel good heading into the spring conference season," commented Allegheny head coach Jared Luteran. "I know they are already working hard in the off season."
Cole and Triolo dominated the court in doubles during the fall season, posting an 11-3 overall record, including a 9-1 mark in tournament play. The pair won the "A Doubles" bracket at the 2013 Kenyon Invitational, eventually earning the No. 2 seed at the ITA Tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Allegheny closed the fall campaign with a 3-1 record, opening the season with a 9-0 win over Grove City before falling to perennial national power Carnegie Mellon in the championship of the Nancy J. Heath Invitational. The Gators would respond with their seventh consecutive victory, 7-2, over Division II Mercyhurst before closing out the dual match schedule with a dominating, 9-0 win over John Carroll.
The Gators will start the spring season on Feb. 15, as they will travel to Erie, Pa. to take on North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) member Denison.
