ERIE, Pa. -- After dropping two of three doubles matches, the Allegheny men's tennis team swept singles competition and claimed a 7-2 victory over John Carroll on Saturday at Westwood Racquet Club.
Jacob Allmaras and Evan Gordon teamed for the lone Gator doubles point. They also won singles matches on their own.
Gordon defeated Ross Venzke at fourth singles, 6-3, 7-5, while Allmaras was victorious against Patrick Lewandowski, 6-1, 6-0. Allmaras and Gordon won the third doubles match over Lewandowski and Paul Olexa, 8-2.
Other singles winners for Allegheny were Alex Bonfiglio, Mike Provenzano, Max Hennessy and Nick Darrow.
Bonfiglio handled Richard Mullaney at first singles, 7-5, 6-7 (7-3), 10-7. Provenzano claimed his point at second singles against Chad Ruehs, 6-4, 6-3. At third singles, Hennessy defeated Michael Hulseman, 6-1, 6-1, and Darrow won the sixth singles match over Edward Zalar, 6-2, 6-0.
The Gators (4-2) will be in action next when they take part in Spring Break action at Hilton Head Island, S.C. Opponents include Salem State, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Carleton and Hope.
