MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with an 8-1 victory over Oberlin (3-20, 0-3) in North Coast Athletic Conference East Division action at the Robertson Complex on Saturday.
Due to the threat of rain, the squads began their match with singles contests. Seniors Evan Gordon and Ben Hurtuk led the Gators (11-8, 2-0) to a sweep at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, clinching the team win before doubles play even began.
Gordon outlasted Sam Towne in his match, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, while Hurtuk bested Peder Davis, 6-1, 6-0.
Alex Bonfiglio, Mike Provenzano, Max Hennessy and Jacob Allmaras also won singles matches for the Gators.
Bonfiglio won the No. 1 match against Ben Godlove, 6-2, 6-4. At second singles, Provenzano defeated Ben Turchin, 6-2, 6-1.
Hennessy won the third singles match against Eliot Heaton, 6-4, 6-2, and Allmaras handled Joe Leffler at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Allegheny also won two doubles matches. Hennessy and Provenzano teamed for an 8-5 win over Davis and Heaton at second doubles. Bonfiglio and Jordon were 8-4 winners versus Leffler and Towne at No. 3.
The Gators will be back in action on Sunday when they visit NCAC East foe Kenyon for a 2 p.m. start. The match will be Allegheny's final contest before the NCAC Tournament.
