MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's tennis squad swept the Lions of Penn State-Behrend 9-0 on a rain shortened day inside the Wise Center. What was supposed to be the first match of the Nancy J. Heath Invitational ended up being the only match each team would play, as the impending threat of rain forced Baldwin-Wallace and Wlash to back out.
The change did not seem to affect the Gators as Carolyn Shetter, Deb Landau, Elyse Schmitt, Janna Dickerson, Laura Steele, and Kathleen McBride all won their singles matches quite handley. Allegheny also breezed through their doubles matches, only dropping a combined four games in the three matches.
The win gives the Gators a 1-0 start, as they will have to wait until Tuesday to play again against Mercyhurst at the Robertson Complex. Allegheny was scheduled to play John Carroll tomorrow, but the forecast has forced that match to be postponed for later in the season.
