Allegheny College incoming freshman Tyler Triolo was honored by the Philadelphia Area Tennis District this July, earning a scholarship towards his upcoming career as a Gator. The award was given to three junior players to help fund their college education and was based upon their academic success, athletic achievement, impact on the community and leadership. Presented to Triolo at the World Team Tennis event featuring the Philadelphia Freedoms and the Orange County Breakers, former world No. 1 Chris Evert made a guest appearance and was part of the award ceremony. Triolo comes to Allegheny as the No. 9 varsity player in Pennsylvania, fresh off of winning a second straight PAC-10 Doubles Championship for Spring-Ford High School this past May. He also finished as the runner-up in the PAC-10 singles competition, having won the previous two singles championships. Triolo is one of the many fresh faces to the Gators tennis program. Led by head coach Jared Luteran, who is entering his 10th season, Triolo will join rising junior Patrick Cole, the 2010 NCAC Newcomer of the Year to improve on the men's 3-1 NCAC record in 2011-12. The Gators open their season on Sept. 8 as the hosts of the Nancy J. Heath Invitational.
