SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its academic awards for the 2014-15 season, and Allegheny College is well-represented.
The Allegheny women's team was named an ITA All-Academic Team, while eight members of the men's and women's team, including Alexander Hurtuk, Sam Stephenson, Daniel Conroy, Samarth Gopal, Tyler Triolo, Abby Lange, Andrea Brush, and Michaela Thompson, have been recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes.
The Gator women earned ITA All-Academic Team accolades by achieving a team grade point average over 3.20 for the duration of the 2014-15 academic year. Head coach Jared Luteran's squad was previously honored with the 2015 William Crawford Team Academic Merit Award, given to the Allegheny team with the highest GPA.
This marks the fourth time in as many seasons in which Hurtuk earned ITA Scholar Athlete accolades, while Brush earns the honor for the third straight year and Lange, Thompson, and Triolo did so for the second straight year. To be named an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, achieve a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher during the academic year, and be enrolled at their current institution for at least two semesters. Earlier this summer, Hurtuk, Thompson, Lange, and Brush were also named to the North Coast Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, recognizing student-athletes of at least sophomore status who hold a cumulative GPA over 3.50.
