9/14/2010MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny Men’s tennis team took to the lights and picked up an impressive win over Division-II Mercyhurst College on Tuesday. The lone blemish on the evening for the Gators came in a loss in no. 1 doubles as the Gators nearly pulled off the sweep winning the dual match 8-1.
The wins did not come easy for the Gators as a couple of players were down in their singles matches before making incredible comebacks to secure the wins. No. 1 singles competitor Alex Bonfiglio dropped the first set 3-6 then found himself down 9-5 in a 10-point tiebreaker, and then proceeded to rattle off six straight points for the 11-9 victory. Pat Cole came back from a 7-2 disadvantage in a 10-point tiebreaker but rallied for eight straight points to win the match in the fourth flight. Jonathon Jordan handled his match 6-1, 6-1 to remain undefeated in the fall for the Gators competition in flight six.
