Pat Cole Wins Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Award!




SKILLMAN, N.J. – Junior Patrick Cole was named the Central Region Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportmanship Award recipient, announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) central office on Monday, May 13.

In order to receive the honor, an athlete must be either a junior or senior member of an ITA member institution. The nominees are then judged based on tennis accomplishments, scholastic and extra-curricular achievements along with sportsmanship, leadership and character.

A three-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) first team singles selection and three-time All-NCAC doubles selection, Cole set the program record for most combined wins between singles and doubles matches in a season, as the junior went 22-7 in both top-flight singles and doubles to set the new record with 44 combined wins. Cole also tied freshman Tyler Triolo as the new record holders for most doubles wins in a single season.

Off the court, Cole has played a major role in the Allegheny Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), elected to the President position for the 2013-14 season. Thus far in his career for the Blue and Gold, Cole is 57-15 in singles matches to compliment a 53-22 mark in doubles matches.

Next, Cole will advance to the national ballot, where he will be one of the student-athletes eligible to be selected for the National Arthur Ashe Jr. Award winner, co-sponsored by the ITA and United State Tennis Association (USTA).

Three Men Named All NCAC

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three Allegheny men's tennis players were placed on the 2013 All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) team, announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Junior Patrick Cole earned first team singles and second team doubles honors after setting the program record for most combined wins in a single season.  Cole went 15-3 in top-flight singles for the Gators this season while posting a 13-3 record in No. 1 doubles with junior Frank Mosconi, who also earned all-conference doubles honors.

Freshman Tyler Triolo earned honorable mention singles honors after finishing the season at second-flight singles with a 16-7 overall record and 10-2 record in second-flight singles.

Men Finish with Win Over Wabash!


OBERLIN, Ohio – With two Gators further solidifying their place in the Allegheny record books, the men's tennis squad finished the season in fifth place, upending Wabash, 5-3, at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tennis championships on Sunday evening at the Don Hunsinger Courts.

Junior Patrick Cole and freshman Tyler Triolo each won their respective doubles matches, finishing the season with 22 wins each in doubles matches, which is a new program record. The two surpass the previous record of 20 held by Davis Howell and John Dymond during the 1999-00 season. Cole, paired with junior Frank Mosconi, won top-flight doubles, 8-4 while Triolo and sophomore Daniel Conroy won their decision in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.

Cole also finished the season with 44 combined wins in singles and doubles, which also stands as the new program record, surpassing the 41 combined wins set by Pete VandeKappelle in the 1998-99 season. Cole won the top-flight singles match, 6-1, 6-2. Triolo added a 6-3, 6-3 victorious decision in No. 2 doubles as sophomore Sam Stephenson clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 6 spot.

The victory is Allegheny's first tournament win over Wabash since 2008. Allegheny also improves its final standing in the conference from the 2011-12 campaign, concluding a season that saw the team vault to an 11-0 record in dual matches.

Allegheny will start the 2013-14 campaign at the Nancy J. Heath Invitational, hosted in Meadville, next September.

Men Sweep Ohio Wesleyan 5-0 at NCACs and Triolo and Cole Set Records!
















OBERLIN, Ohio – Junior Patrick Cole and freshman Tyler Triolo each set new program records usher the Gators to a 5-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournament at the Don Hunsinger Courts.

With Cole's 21st wins in both singles and doubles, the junior becomes the single-season record holder for combined singles and doubles victories.  Playing all of his 2012-13 matches in the top-flight position, Cole has posted a 14-3 record in top-flight dual singles matches and a 15-3 mark in doubles matches.

Freshman Tyler Triolo and Cole both became the new record holders in single season doubles victories as both won their 21st doubles match of the season.

Cole, paired with fellow third year Frank Mosconi, won, 8-3, to pace the Gators to a sweep in doubles matches.  Sophomores Alexander Hurtuk and Sam Stephenson won an 8-2 decision in No. 2 doubles as the third-flight pair of freshman Tyler Triolo and sophomore Daniel Conroy picked up an 8-2 victory.

Playing in the No. 6 singles spot, Stephenson won a 6-1, 6-0 decision to help the Gators to a 2-0 record in singles matches that clinched the team victory.  Cole would add a 6-1, 6-0 win in the top-flight position.

The Gators will close the NCAC tournament with a 1 p.m. match against Wabash on Sunday, Apr. 28.

Pat Cole Earns NCAC Player of the Week Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 4-0 top-flight record earned Allegheny junior Patrick Cole North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Player of the Week honors, announced by the conference office on Monday.

Ranked No. 17 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Regional poll, Cole finished the previous week with four top-flight wins, helping the Gators maintain their undefeated match record, which now stands at 10-0.

In singles, the junior used a 6-2, 6-2 win against Franciscan on Apr. 5 and an 6-1, 6-4 victory against NCAC East opponent Ohio Wesleyan on Apr. 6 to improve his record in solo matches to 6-1 in the spring.  Cole has won five consecutive singles matches, taking the last four in straight sets.

Paired with fellow third year Frank Mosconi, Cole picked up two wins in No. 1 doubles, defeating Franciscan, 8-4 before an 8-2 win over Ohio Wesleyan.  The pair of Cole and Mosconi enters the week winners of three conescutive decisions.

The Gators will next visit New Kensington, Pa. to take on Westminster on Wed., Apr. 10 before returning to the Robertson Tennis Complex on Fri., Apr. 12 to face Case Western Reserve before traveling to Wooster on Apr. 13.

Men Beat Franciscan 8-1 to Remain Undefeated




MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Gators swept doubles for the second consecutive match, improving their season-opening winning streak to nine games and remaining undefeated with an 8-1 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) member Franciscan on Friday evening.

Junior Patrick Cole, ranked No. 17 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Region poll, won his top-flight doubles match with fellow third year Frank Mosconi, 8-4, to compliment his third straight two-set win, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 1 singles. Cole improves his spring record in singles and doubles to 5-1 each, respectively, with Friday's victorious decisions.

Freshman Tyler Triolo and sophomore Daniel Conroy maintained their momentum from an undefeated spring training with a dominating, 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles. The pair have yet to be defeated in the spring season and are winners of seven straight matches. Triolo also picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win in No. 2 singles.

Junior Alexander Hurtuk won his No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-2, while completing the sweep in No. 2 doubles with sophomore partner Sam Stephenson, 8-4.

Freshman Thomas Manning also remained undefeated in the spring with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles, helping the Gators to a 5-1 record in solo matches. Junior Charlie Murphy picked up a 6-1, 6-0 decision in the No. 5 singles spot.

Allegheny will return to the Robertson Tennis Complex on Saturday, Apr. 5 at 10 a.m. to open North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition against Ohio Wesleyan.

Men Remain Undefeated at 8-0 After Beating Macalester!

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Freshman Tyler Triolo and sophomore Daniel Conroy finished spring training with an undefeated record, winning their pairs match on Friday afternoon to help the Gators to a 7-2 win over Macalester.

With the victory, the Gators retain their undefeated, 8-0 start to the season.

Freshman Thomas Manning won no. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-0, to finish undefeated in solo matches over spring training. Junior Patrick Cole picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win on top-flight singles, adding an 8-3 win paired with fellow third year Frank Mosconi in no. 1 doubles.

Triolo won second-flight singles, 6-4, 6-3, helping the Gators to a 4-2 singles record. Junior Charlie Murphy continued his strong start to the spring season with a 6-3, 6-4 win in fifth-flight singles.

Sophomore Sam Stephenson and sophomore Alexander Hurtuk completed the three-match doubles sweep with an 8-4 win in their second-flight pairs match.

The Gators will return to the Robertson Tennis Complex on Sat., Mar. 30 to take on Case Western Reserve.

Men Beat Wisconsin Eau-Claire for 7th Straight Win!

– Junior Patrick Cole notched another win in top-flight singles, helping lead the Gators to a 4-2 win in singles matches and a 5-4 match win over Wisconsin Eau-Claire on Thursday afternoon.

Cole, ranked as the no. 23 singles player by the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central rankings released on Mar. 14, won his match, 6-1, 6-2 as the Gators swept the top two singles spots en route to the win.  Freshman Tyler Triolo fell behind, 2-6, in the first set before taking a 6-1 decision in the second.  Triolo would clinch the win with a 10-8 victory in the tie breaker.

Junior Frank Mosconi won his no. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2.  Freshman Thomas Manning would also pick up a dramatic win in singles, winning the first set 6-3 before needing a 10-3 tie-breaker win after dropping the second set.

The third-flight doubles team of Triolo and junior Daniel Conroy picked up the sole win for the Gators in doubles matches, 8-5.

Men Beat Centre to Remain Undefeated!

– Sparked by a sweep in double matches, the Allegheny men's tennis squad upended Centre, 6-3, to maintain their undefeated start to the season on Tuesday afternoon.

Juniors Pat Cole and Frank Mosconi won top flight singles, 8-5, to lead the squad in their second match of spring training.  Cole would also win in top-flight singles, taking a 10-6 decision in the third set to pull off the victory.

Sophomore Sam Stephenson and junior Alexander Hurtuk would win, 8-3, in no. 2 singles.  Hurtuk would use a 10-4 result in the tie-breaker set to win in third-flight singles.  Second year Dan Conroy and freshman Tyler Triolo won their third-flight doubles match. 8-5 as freshman Thomas Manning won a 6-2, 6-0 decision in No. 6 singles.

Allegheny will re-take the courts on Thursday, Mar. 21 against Wisconsin Eau-Claire.

Men Beat Div. II Millersville

– Freshman Tyler Triolo picked up wins in singles and doubles to spark the Gators to a 7-2 win over Division II opponent Millersville in the squad's spring training opening match on Sunday afternoon.

Triolo dominated his second flight singles match, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win to lead Allegheny to a 5-1 record in singles matches.  Junior Alexander Hurtuk won a 6-2, 6-2 decision in no. 3 singles as fellow third year Charlie Murphy picked up his second win of the spring campaign, 7-5, 6-1.

Juniors Patrick Cole and Frank Mosconi won an 8-0 decision in top-flight doubles.  Triolo and junior Daniel Conroy won no. 3 doubles with a score of 8-2.

Community Service Weekend




Both teams did their annual weekend of community service this year by participating in Make a Difference Day on Saturday and hosting their Free Tennis Clinic on Sunday. They painted an entire house on Saturday in 6 hours and then taught kids from ages 5-12 in Crawford County the great sport of tennis on Sunday!

Men Defeat Div. II Mercyhurst for 6th Straight Season



The men and women battled Merychurst University under a beautiful night at the Robertson Athletic Complex at Allegheny. The women lost a hard fought battle by the score of 6-3, but the men rattled off their sixth straight win against the Div. II school from Erie, PA. The men's final tally was 8-1.

Allegheny Sweeps Thiel in Non-Conference Action



GREENVILLE, Pa. –
The Allegheny men's tennis team traveled to Greenville, Pa. Friday afternoon to take on the Tomcats of Thiel College. The Gators made quick work of the Tomcats, sweeping them for a 9-0 victory.

Allegheny cruised in the doubles competition, dropping just two games combined in three matches.

Patrick Cole set the tone for the singles competition with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in number one singles. Alex Hurtuk, Charlie Murphy, Frank Mosconi, Timothy O'Brien, and Tyler Miller all followed suit with victories of their own to help Allegheny to a 9-0 win.

The Gators improved to 8-6 overall, as they will be off until Wednesday, April 18 when they will host the Wolverines of Grove City.

Gators Roll in Victory Over Wooster



MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's tennis squad hosted the Fighting Scots of Wooster on Saturday afternoon. A sweep of the doubles competitions boosted the Gators, as they would dispose of the Fighting Scots 6-3 for their second conference victory of the season.

All three doubles pairing for Allegheny had no trouble cruising to victories, as the Gators would enter singles play with a 3-0 advantage.

Patrick Cole continued his domination of the number one singles slot, defeating Landon Moore 6-1, 6-0. Wooster answered by taking the number two and three singles matches; however, Sam Stepenson and Frank Mosconi came through with victories in number four and five singles respectively to lock it up for the Gators.

The win improved Allegheny to 7-6 overall on the season as they sit tied atop the NCAC East standings with Oberlin. The Gators will be off until Friday, April 13 when they will travel to Greenville, Pa. to take on the Tomcats of Thiel College. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.

Allegheny Dismantles Westminster in Non-Conference Action



NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny men's tennis team traveled to the campus of Westminster College Tuesday afternoon to take on the Titans of the PAC. The Gators completely overwhelmed Westminster, taking every set from the Titans in a 9-0 domination.

Patrick Cole, Alex Hurtuk, Charlie Murphy, Frank Mosconi, Keith Meyer and Tyler Miller all swept their respective singles matches. For freshman Keith Meyer, his 6-2, 6-1 number five singles victory over Ryan Carr was the first of his career, giving him a perfect 1-0 record as a Gator.

The doubles side of the competition was just as dominate for Allegheny, as all three pairs cruised to easy victories. For the number three pairing of Timothy O'Brien and Kevin Snyder, it was their first appearance in a duel match this season. They made a strong debut, handling the Westminster pair of Ryan Carr and Marshall Finelli 8-4.

The win improves the Gators to 6-6 on the season, as they look forward to a conference showdown with the Fighting Scots of Wooster at the Robertson Complex on Saturday. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.

Allegheny Returns to Action with Win Over John Carroll



ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's tennis squad returned to the court Sunday afternoon, as they traveled to the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie to host the Blue Streak of John Carroll University. In a match that had been postponed from September 10 due to inclement weather, the Gators would start their spring schedule on a great note, defeating John Carroll 7-2.

Allegheny would start strong, sweeping all three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Freshman transfer Sam Stephenson paired up with Alex Hurtuk in the most exciting doubles match of the afternoon, as they found themselves digging out of a 4-7 hole to take the number two doubles 9-7.

Competing in his first ever collegiate match, Stephenson would also come away victorious in his number four singles match, defeating Peter Scanillo 6-3, 6-2.

Patrick Cole once again dominated in number one singles, winning 6-2, 6-1. Alex Hurtuk cruised in number two singles 6-2, 6-2; and Daniel Conory sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Gators will be back in action Saturday, February 18 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan.
