GAMBIER, Ohio - The Allegheny women's tennis team advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 5-3 win over Wittenberg during the quarterfinal round at Kenyon.
The Gators managed to gain only one of three points during doubles competition, but won four of five singles matches to emerge victorious.
Allegheny's first doubles team of Lauren Kristofco and Sarah Longo won its match against Sean Delaney and Kat Sundstrom, 8-2. Meanwhile, at second doubles, Wittenberg's Allison Earhardt and Maggie Stewart defeated Janna Dickerson and Elyse Schmitt, 8-6, while Tigers Jayne Miely and Jackie Stevens won 8-4 at third doubles over Margaret Hodgkiss-Lilly and Deb Landau.
In singles play, Kristofco, Longo, Dickerson and Landau won points for the Gators.
Kristofco won at first singles against Earhardt, 6-4, 6-1, and Longo claimed a win over Emily Nash at third singles, 6-4, 7-6.
Also for Allegheny, Dickerson defeated Alexandra Cummins, 6-2, 6-2, in fifth singles, while Landau won at sixth singles against Stevens, 6-3, 6-4.
Miely scored Wittenberg's only singles point. She defeated Schmitt, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles.
The Gators will now take on host Kenyon during Sunday's semifinals at 11 a.m. The winner will play in the finals later on Sunday at 3 p.m.
