Allegheny Men Beat Oberlin 5-0 at NCACs!

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Allegheny College men's tennis team took down the Yeomen of Oberlin college for the second time in six days on Friday morning, picking up a 5-0 decision the first round of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournament on the campus of Kenyon College.

The Gators obtained early momentum with a sweep of doubles. The number two doubles team of junior Daniel Conroy and sophomore Thomas Manning started off the morning with an 8-3 victory. The top-flight duo of senior Patrick Cole and sophomore Tyler Triolo pushed the Gator lead to two with a 8-2 win. Finally, the No. 3 doubles team of juniors Sam Stephenson and Alexander Hurtuk completed the sweep with a close 8-6 victory.

With the win, Cole and Triolo break their own record in season doubles wins with 23. Cole and Triolo broke the record last season with 22. The pairing, ranked regionally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Region poll earlier in the season, currently own a 23-6 record as a pairing, including a 14-5 mark in dual matches to compliment a 9-1 record in tournament bouts.

With the 3-0 lead in hand, the Gators only needed two more points to seal the victory, and Manning was the first to get off the court with a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles. The sophomore victory was his 10th consecutive singles win and 11th of the spring season. Needing one more win, Cole would finish off the Yeomen with his third consecutive victory, 6-1, 6-0, at top-flight singles.

With his singles win, Cole now owns the single season wins record for singles completition. Cole breaks the record with 25 wins that was previously held by Trey Wesbrook for the 1995 - 1996 campaign. With this record in hand, Cole now owns every record for the Allegheny College men's tennis program.

The Gators will next take the court in the semifinals of the NCAC tournament against the Lords of Kenyon College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The match is scheduled to be played at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The Gators will look to avenge a 7-2 loss at the hands of the Lords from earlier in the season.
