GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Allegheny College women's tennis team rebounded in the consolation match of the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament to defeat the Wittenberg Tigers, 5-0, on Saturday on the campus of Denison University.
The Gators swept doubles to take a critical, 3-0 lead out of the gate. Allegheny's top-flight duo of sophomores Andrea Brush and Sun Mo Koo picked up a decisive, 8-1 victory to kick the match off and get the Gators on the board first. The third doubles team of sophomore Mikaela Pope and freshman Haley Meekhof earned an 8-2 decision to push the Gators' lead to 2-0. Pope and Meekhof end the season with a 5-2 record over their final seven matches, including a 2-0 mark at the NCAC Tournament. The all-senior team of Laura Steele and Kathleen McBride capped the sweep with an 8-3 win at second-flight doubles.
With the sweep in hand, the Gators moved to singles in search of two wins to clinch the match. The Gators took the first set in all of the singles matches, as Pope would deliver the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at third singles to give the Gators a 4-0 lead. Moments later, Koo would complete a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles to seal the match for the Gators.
