COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the Allegheny tennis program were named to the 2014 All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Team, announced by the conference office on Thursday, May 1. Senior Patrick Cole earned first team singles honors, adding a first team doubles notation with sophomore partnerTyler Triolo, who added an honorable mention singles award. Sophomore Thomas Manning was named to the All-NCAC Honorable Mention listing as head coach Jared Luteran was named the NCAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in a vote conducted by the NCAC coaching contingent.
Cole led the Gators with his unprecedented fourth All-NCAC First Team singles selection, becoming the first four-time first team selection since Denison's Lee Hays accomplished the feat from 1996-99. Cole ends his illustrious four-year career for the Gators as the most decorated singles player in program history, earning Allegheny men's tennis marks for career singles victories (83) and most wins in a single season (26) to add to his fourth All-NCAC First Team selection. This season, Cole finished the season 26-6 in singles matches, including an 18-4 mark in top-flight matches. In addition, Cole went 8-2 in tournament bouts, winning nine consecutive matches from Mar. 16 to Apr. 12, his best streak of the season.
In addition, Cole joined Triolo on the All-NCAC First Team Doubles squad. Cole earned his second All-NCAC Doubles plaudit while Triolo lands on the doubles listing for the first time in his career for the Blue and Gold. Cole and Triolo went 25-6 on the season, setting the program record for most doubles victories for the second consecutive year. The pairing earned a No. 10 ranking in the pre-season Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Region Poll,
Triolo also earned his second All-NCAC Singles selection, landing on the honorable mention listing with fellow sophomore Manning, who earned a spot on the All-NCAC team for the first time in his career. Triolo went 13-15 on the season, including a 10-8 mark at second-flight, including five consecutive wins from Mar. 21 to Apr. 12.
Manning finished the season 21-7 as a staple for the Gators at No. 3 singles, ending his sophomore campaign 9-3 at third-flight. Winning both of his second-flight matches, ended the season on a 10-match winning streak, started by a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8, comeback win over Wittenberg on Apr. 4.
Luteran earned his second NCAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year award, following a selection in 2007. Helping lead the Gators to a fourth-place finish at the 2014 NCAC Tournament, Luteran helped lead the Gators to a 15-7 overall record, increasing his career record to 127-98 during 11 years on the sidelines.
