Allegheny Dominates in Sweep of Fighting Scots

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Saturday's women's tennis match was forced inside the friendly confines of David V. Wise Center due to inclement weather, but that didn't affect the Gators as they would cruise to a 9-0 win over the College of Wooster.

Allegheny dominated in doubles competition, dropping just five games in three matches. They would continue that momentum into singles play, overwhelming the Fighting Scots in every way.

Carolyn Shetter cruised in number one singles 6-1, 6-3, and Deborah Landau came back after dropping the second set to take number two singles in a super tiebreak 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.

Janna Dickerson won a close match against Boo Flynn in number three singles 7-5, 6-4; while Laura Steele (6-0, 6-2), Elyse Schmitt (6-1, 6-0), and Cortney O'Brien (6-1, 6-1) all came away with victories as Allegheny improved to 8-7 on the season. For the Gators it was their first NCAC contest of the season, and the win moves them into a first place tie with Oberlin in the NCAC East division.

The Gators will be off until Wednesday, April 18 when they will host non-conference rival Grove City at 4:30 pm.
