Gators Close Spring Break with Third Straight Win


Hilton Head, SC - A sweep of doubles led the way for the Allegheny women's tennis team as they wrapped up a 3-0 spring break trip with a 6-3 win over the Green Knights of St. Norbert College.

The Gators (7-4), who closed out their week going a perfect 3-0, started off the match like they had all spring break, sweeping doubles. Allegheny was led by the number one doubles team of sophomores Sun Mo Kooand Andrea Brush winning 8-4. The third doubles tandem of first years Haley Meekhof and Michaela Thompson won 8-2, while the sweep was completed by the second doubles team of senior Kathleen McBride and sophomore Mikaela Pope, as they won 8-5.

Allegheny extended their lead in the early portion of the singles matches, with Koo winning at first singles 6-4, 6-3. St. Norbert began to mount a comeback winning at fifth and sixth singles, but Brush stomped out the comeback bid at second singles, clinching the match by winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Allegheny would add one more win when Pope came back from being down 5-1 in the first set to win 7-5, 7-6 (5). With the wins in both singles and doubles, Koo, Brush, and Pope all end their spring break with a perfect 6-0 record.

Allegheny now turns to the NCAC Conference schedule when they take on the Ladies of Kenyon College on March 29th in Meadville. The Ladies come to Meadville ranked eighth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Rankings. First serve will take place at 2:00 p.m at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
