DELAWARE, Ohio - The Allegheny men's tennis team won a non-division matchup as it defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 6-3, on Saturday. The victory does not count as a conference win for the Gators as the Battling Bishops are in the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division.
Evan Gordon (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), Zack Kerosky (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside), Jake Allmaras (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and Ben Hurtuk (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) were singles winners for the Gators.
Gordon won the second singles match over Daniel Thangarajah, 6-1, 6-4, while Kerosky was victorious at third singles against Brandon Luttinger, 6-3, 0-6, 10-3.
Also for Allegheny, Allmaras won in fourth singles versus Scott Hellberg, 6-3, 6-4, and Hurtuk claimed a win at fifth singles over Solomon Ryan, 6-1, 6-2.
The Gators also won two doubles matches. Allmaras and Gordon teamed to win at second doubles against Luttinger and Thangarajah, 8-6. In third doubles, Kerosky and Eric Roginek (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) defeated Ryan Leslie and Zach Weaver, 9-8 (7-1).
Allegheny (7-5) will be in action next when it visits Grove City on Tuesday. The match will start at 3:30 p.m
